What Is It And Why Is It There
A centralised fan unit is situated in your property which draws the stale moist air from your bathroom, kitchen, WC, utility & en-suite rooms removing it from the property through the circular grills located in the ceiling. The extracted air passes through the centralized fan unit's heat exchanger, allowing the supply air coming into the property to recover the heat being extracted.
The air is moved around the property at a low level continuously 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Your home is ventilated without the need to open windows which can let in noise, fumes and can compromise security.
It will prevent the build-up of moisture in the house, remove steam/condensation and odours during bathing and cooking and prevent black mould forming on the walls, behind cupboards etc. It will also stop the dampness that you can get in your cupboards and wardrobes on close and furnishings caused by poor ventilation.
Recommended Service Intervals
Annual ( 12 month ) System Servicing
6 Month Filter Check & Replacement (sooner if a decrease in indoor air quality is noticed).
Annual MVHR Service Includes:
Replacing both supply & extract filters
Clean and sanitise the heat exchanger
Clean all supply & extract grills
Clean and Sanitse supply & extract fan Blades
Check air flow rates in all supply & extract grills
Clean condensate drain within unit
Report any defects with the system
Re-commission if required
DO NOT SWITCH OFF THE UNIT it is set to run 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
DO NOT ADJUST THE CEILING GRILLS these are set to provide the correct airflow levels for the property and will affect the performance of the system if adjusted.

Operating Your System
Your MVHR system is designed and installed to work with little to no intervention or operation. Once commissioned and set up correctly it will provide balanced supply and extract to your home.
The low ventilation continuous airflow is calculated based on the size of your home and occupants with a boost facility operated by a manual switch, light switch and some operated by in-built humidity sensors.
How Much Does It Cost
Your system uses very little energy to operate , it is not a heating system, it recovers upto 95% of the heat within the air in your home and will lower your heating costs as you are not wasting energy heating your room to open windows and expel warm air.
Keep Your System Working
Filters should be cleaned by hoovering every 60-90 days depending on outside environmental conditions. Replace filters every 12 months and have a cleaning service.
If you notice a lack of extraction, dust and dirt around the bedroom and living room grills, noise from the unit and poorer air quality then it is time your system is serviced.
